Along the Way: Love, Life and Death in the Poetry of Claribel Alegría

Activity: Talk or presentationOral presentation

Description

Though much of her literature centers on Central America’s brutal history, in her poetry collections, Saudade and Soltando amarras, Claribel Alegría (Nicaragua, 1924) offers readers an intimate look at love, life and death. These works reveal a mature poetic voice that looks back at life’s joys and losses and conveys a vivid awareness of one’s future mortality. Alegría reworks classical and religious figures to reflect upon the notion of life as a journey during which writing becomes indispensable.
