Featured book on Reading Chengdu, Riding the Metro, the flagship reading program of Chengdu Metro TV

Description of impact

Entrepreneur's Handbook (Maskara, China Renmin University Press, 2017) was selected as a featured book on Reading Chengdu, Riding the Metro (书香成都·悦行地铁), described on air as Chengdu Metro TV's inaugural all-citizen reading program. Metro TV (地铁电视) is the dedicated broadcast network of the Chengdu Metro system, transmitting on in-train and in-station screens across the metro network of a city of approximately sixteen million. The 2 minute 40 second feature segment opens with the program's curated reading list, predominantly literary fiction including Ernest Hemingway's The Old Man and the Sea, Mario Puzo's The Godfather, Lilian Lee's Farewell My Concubine, Liu Cixin's The Three-Body Problem, and Wen Xuan's Glass House; Entrepreneur's Handbook appeared as the only non-fiction title in that lineup as of the broadcast. The segment is introduced by Dr. Chen Gengxuan, the book's Chinese translator, who presents the work as "Dr. Maskara's book on entrepreneurship" and reads from the text. The book was concurrently added to the Chengdu Metro Flowing Book Bag (流动书包) free-borrowing program (documented February 2018). The segment ran many times a day on all screens for several weeks.
