Dr. Alexandra Perez is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociobehavioral and Administrative Pharmacy at the Nova Southeastern University Barry and Judy Silverman College of Pharmacy, where she has served on the faculty since 2008. She earned her PharmD from Nova Southeastern University and completed an ASHP-accredited pharmacy practice residency, a fellowship in Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research, and an MS in Pharmacy Administration at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She also completed advanced research training through the NIH-supported ENACT fellowship in patient-centered outcomes research.

Dr. Perez’s scholarship focuses on pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacoeconomics, outcomes research, and health disparities, particularly in diabetes and chronic disease management. Her research has examined medication use trends, comparative effectiveness, pharmacist-led interventions, and racial and ethnic disparities in care using national databases such as NHANES, claims data, and electronic health records. She has authored more than 40 peer-reviewed publications, two book chapters, and numerous national and international presentations. She currently serves as principal investigator on a funded project evaluating the impact of medical marijuana initiation on opioid use among Florida Medicaid enrollees with type 2 diabetes.

Dr. Perez is nationally recognized for her contributions to pharmacy education and research mentorship. She developed and coordinates several PharmD and PhD required and elective courses in data analytics, pharmacoeconomics, and applied research methods. Her innovative teaching has resulted in extensive student scholarship and national presentations. In 2025, she received the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) Innovation in Teaching Award, and she was previously named Nova Southeastern University College of Pharmacy Professor of the Year (2021-2022) and STUEYS Professor of the Year Finalist (2026).

In addition to her teaching and scholarship, Dr. Perez has held numerous leadership and service roles within the university and nationally. She is the Associate Chair of the Department of Sociobehavioral and Administrative Pharmacy and has chaired or contributed to major curricular, admissions, assessment, and accreditation initiatives. Nationally, she serves on AACP committees, participates in the NIH/NIDDK Network of Minority Research Investigators (NMRI), and reviews grants for organizations including PCORI. She is an active member of professional organizations including ISPOR, AACP, Rho Chi, Phi Lambda Sigma, and Phi Kappa Phi.
