Dr. Basma Gomaa is an Assistant Professor of Sociobehavioral and Administrative Pharmacy at the Barry and Judy Silverman College of Pharmacy, Nova Southeastern University. She earned her PhD in Social and Administrative Pharmacy from the University of Minnesota and completed postdoctoral training at Indiana University School of Public Health. Her research focuses on digital health communication, social media analytics, and social network analysis, with an emphasis on understanding online health information, patient engagement, and the role of digital platforms in pharmacy practice and public health. Dr. Gomaa's work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and supported by federally funded research. She teaches in the PharmD and graduate programs and mentors students in digital health and pharmacy practice research.

In addition to her research, Dr. Gomaa is actively engaged in teaching and mentoring. She developed and taught graduate- and professional-level courses, including Social Media Research Methods & Theories for PhD students and Pharmacists and Pharmaceuticals in Media for PharmD students. Dr. Gomaa aims to equip the next generation of pharmacists and researchers with the skills to critically evaluate, communicate, and address misinformation in an evolving digital landscape.

My research focuses on digital health communication, social media analytics, and social network analysis to better understand how online platforms influence health information dissemination, patient engagement, and health-related behaviors. I am particularly interested in evaluating the quality of online health information, identifying influential actors and communication patterns within digital health communities, and leveraging data-driven approaches to inform pharmacy practice, patient education, and public health interventions. My work integrates computational methods with behavioral and communication theories to advance the responsible use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in healthcare. My research has been published in peer-reviewed journals and supported by externally funded research, including projects funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
