Dr. Herminia Janet Rivera is a Professor at Nova Southeastern University’s Abraham S. Fischler College of Education & School of Criminal Justice. She received her doctorate from The Ohio State University Graduate School of Education, and her master and bachelor are from the University of Puerto Rico. Dr. Rivera’s academic interest is in practicing culturally relevant pedagogy in the early childhood and elementary classroom. Dr. Rivera has published on the topic of culturally relevant pedagogy, and she continues doing research in this area. She also published and participated in several research projects examining other early childhood topics like STEM in the early childhood classroom. Dr. Rivera presented about early childhood education topics at several local, national and international conferences. She has over 30 years of experience in teaching education programs at school and college level.
Dr. Rivera has extensive experience teaching topics in early childhood, elementary, multicultural and research education. She is a doctorate advisor and has served on several dissertation committees. At the Abraham S. Fischler College of Education & School of Criminal Justice has also served as Institutional Review Board Representative.
