Research interests

As an applied medical geographer and monitoring and evaluation (M&E) expert Dr Moise's scholarly contributions span medical geography, population health, well-being and applied spatial statistical methods. Her current research focuses on generating evidence for precision public policy for families and communities at risk, understanding human behavior in infectious and vector-borne disease transmission, and leveraging data to improve health outcomes at multiple levels from individuals, communities to institutions.

She is also the Director of NSU's Ocean Health Intitative and Director of the Global Health Proram. 

Earlier in her career, Dr. Moise worked extensively across national public health and environmental health systems, as well as global health programs in partnership with ministries of health in low- and middle-income countries. Her international portfolio includes evaluating aid effectiveness and establishing HIV surveillance systems in Burundi, assessing the maturity of supply chain systems for essential drugs in Nigeria, promoting uptake of reproductive health services in Yemen, evaluating supply chain effectiveness during the Ebola outbreak in Liberia, and developing health performance indicators in Zambia. She also served as a Peace Corps technical trainer in Zambia for six years, supporting the Zambia Integrated Aquaculture Program and working as a district officer for the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries Department of Fisheries in Solwezi.

Dr. Moise has contributed to national and global advisory efforts serving NACCHO advisory groups for vector-borne diseases, the CDC’s Data Modernization and Drone Working Groups, and the UNAIDS Consortium for Estimating HIV with Scanty Data, where she helped shape strategies for surveillance, innovation and inclusive data systems in resource-limited settings.

She is an Editorial Board Member of the Annals of the American Association of Geographers, where she contributes to the Geographic Methods section, an Academic Editor for PLOS One, and recipient of the Best Paper Award from the Journal of Map and Geography Libraries. She has received numerous honors for her research and mentorship, including the University of Miami College of Arts & Sciences’ Scholarly and Creative Recognition Award, Provost Awards (2020–2023), the Gabelli Senior Scholar Award, the Luis Glaser Mentorship Award, and the James W. McLamore Social Science Award. Her nationally competitive recognitions include a Fulbright Specialist appointment, a fellowship from the American Evaluation Association, and awards from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF). She has also been nominated for the University of Miami Graduate School Faculty Mentor Award in 2019 and 2020. Dr. Moise continues to lead efforts that integrate science, community engagement and policy innovation to strengthen public health systems and improve outcomes for underserved and vulnerable populations.  Dr. Moise holds a Bachelor of Arts in Geography and Environmental Studies (double major) from the University of Oregon, a Master of Science and Ph.D. in Medical Geography from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), and a Master of Public Health from the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS).
