I am PI of an NIH-funded grant examining the measurement of interoceptive functioning for the prediction of eating disorders. I am presently accepting students who are quantitatively oriented and wish to pursue a deep dive into methods for improving measurement validity of psychological constructs.

Janell L. Mensinger, PhD, FAED, is a Professor in the Department of Clinical and School Psychology at Nova Southeastern University. As an applied quantitative health psychologist and Fellow of the Academy for Eating Disorders, her research program bridges eating and body image disorders, statistical theories of measurement, and psychophysiology. She is Director of the CHEERS Lab, which focuses on advancing weight- and size-inclusive science to transform how we understand bodily distress and disordered eating through research on embodied well-being for all. Her work promotes equity-based assessments and utilizes mind-body modalities (e.g., heart rate variability biofeedback, breath-based mindful movement) to enhance interoceptive functioning. By translating embodiment science into stigma-reducing interventions, her research fosters connection, embodied agency, and resilience. Ultimately, her work aims to empower people in all phases of life to achieve ‘whole-person health’ through intentional reconnection to the body.
