LaToya Shakes Malone, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the College of Psychology at Nova Southeastern University. Her academic journey includes earning her M.A. and Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Boston College. Before assuming her full-time faculty position, she was adjunct faculty at NSU for six years. Dr. Shakes Malone is a licensed psychologist that founded and manages a private psychological practice for over 16 years. Her expertise includes comprehensive assessments for specific learning disabilities, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, intellectual disabilities, career transition, immigration asylum, fitness-for-duty, and various court-ordered evaluations.
Dr. Shakes Malone is strongly committed to training future psychologists. Over the past years, she has supervised and mentored many doctoral students and post-doctoral residents. Dr. Shakes Malone’s research looks at the impact of social oppression on the psychological well-being of people of color. Her interests include examining the sociopolitical and structural variables that impact people of color, the relationship between racial identity and academic achievement, and effective assessment strategies and treatment interventions for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
