Education
Dr. Cheng received his Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from National Taiwan University in Taipei, Taiwan; his post-professional Master of Science degree in Orthopedic Physical Therapy from MGH Institute of Health Professions, Boston, Massachusetts; and his Doctor of Science degree in Rehabilitation Science/Applied Kinesiology from Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts.
Teaching
Dr. Cheng coordinates and teaches following course in the DPT and PhD programs: PHT 6815: Physical Agents, PHT 6727 Pharmacology and Radiology, and PHT 7112: Measurement in Physical Therapy Research and Practice.
He also lectures in PHT 6715: Essentials of Biomechanics and Kinesiology, , PHT 6700 Evidence-based Practice I - Introduction to Research Methods & Data Analysis, and PHT 7605: Applying Research in Evidence-based Practice, and PHT 7130: Dissertation Research Seminar.
In addition to teaching these courses, Dr. Cheng also serves as the Research Capstone Coordinator and as a dissertation chair or committee member on PhD dissertation committees.
Scholarly Activities and Interests,
Dr. Cheng’s research interests include biomechanical use of surface electromyography, clinical outcome researches, kinematic and kinetic analysis, and physiological basis and effectiveness of physical agents. Integrating sensor technology and mobile application for clinical outcome assessment has been his new passion in recent year.
Dr. Cheng received several internal and external research grants to support his research activities.
Areas of Practice
Currently Dr. Cheng does not involve direct patient care given his teaching and research responsibilities. However, he has a background as a physical therapist in hospital rehabilitation and outpatient orthopedics clinic.
Professional Activity Summary
Dr. Cheng has been an APTA member since 1997 and he is currently a member of the Education, Orthopedic, Neurology, and Research academies. He serves as an associated editor for Internet Journal of Allied Health and as a reviewer for multiple journals.
