About

Tara Jungersen Ph.D., LMHC, CCMHC, NCC is a Professor in the Department of Counseling at Nova Southeastern University. She completed her Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision at the University of Tennessee, and her M.Ed. in Community Counseling at the University of Virginia.

She is a licensed mental health counselor, with both individual and group work experience in private practice, community mental health, substance abuse, and schools. She has provided crisis and counseling services to individuals, universities, organizations, first responders, and schools during and after local emergencies, and has published on the topic of trauma and crisis. Dr. Jungersen’s community and clinical work includes clinic management, community outreach, and direct services in a variety of community mental health and private treatment settings. She has served as a consultant and clinical supervisor to domestic violence programs in multiple states across the country.

Her research interests include clinical supervision, intimate partner violence, trauma, and treatment access for underserved populations. She is currently working with the Survivor Therapy Empowerment Program, a trauma-informed treatment program for survivors of gender-based trauma. By combining her research and previous clinical experiences, she seeks to bridge theory, practice, and community collaboration both inside and outside of the classroom. Dr. Jungersen is a member of the American Counseling Association, the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, Chi Sigma Iota, and the Broward Medical Reserve Corps, and the Broward Domestic Violence Council. She serves as the Past-President of the Florida Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, the Membership Chair for the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, and is a CACREP Site Team Visitor.

In July 2021, Dr. Jungersen earned the Mental Health Academy’s ‘Disaster Mental Health Counselor’ credential, which is the result 31-hour program focusing on culture-centered best practices in strategies and clinical skills in disaster response. "I hope this training will enhance my previous DMH training and experience for future incident response and deployments."
