Tara S. Jungersen, Ph.D., LMHC, CCMHC, NCC, is Professor of Counseling at Nova Southeastern University and a licensed mental health counselor and counselor educator. Her scholarship, teaching, and professional work focus on trauma and resilience, intimate partner and gender-based violence, disaster mental health, sociodrama, clinical supervision, and counselor education.

Dr. Jungersen’s recent scholarship examines trauma-responsive approaches to violence prevention and intervention, including the use of sociodrama with adolescents and young adults, as well as issues related to counselor training, clinical supervision, and trauma-informed practice. She has presented nationally and internationally and has contributed to peer-reviewed publications, books and book chapters, professional training, and interdisciplinary initiatives addressing trauma, resilience, and behavioral health.

Dr. Jungersen is President-Elect of the International Association for Resilience and Trauma Counseling (IARTC), a division of the American Counseling Association, and served as Editor-in-Chief of Trauma Counseling and Resilience from 2022–2026. She is an experienced CACREP site visitor and has held numerous professional leadership, accreditation, editorial, and peer-review roles. At Nova Southeastern University, Dr. Jungersen teaches and supervises graduate students in clinical mental health counseling. She previously served as Chair of the Department of Counseling from 2016–2021, during which the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program achieved first-time eight-year CACREP accreditation across its campuses and delivery formats. Her current university work includes accreditation, curriculum development, student mentoring, and community-engaged sociodrama initiatives addressing interpersonal violence, suicide prevention, trauma, and mental health.

Dr. Jungersen is a Florida Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Qualified Supervisor, a Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor, and a National Certified Counselor. Her clinical and consulting background includes trauma and intimate partner violence, crisis intervention, disaster mental health, clinical supervision, and behavioral health response following natural disasters and mass violence.
