Best Practices for Incorporating Students with Disabilities in Distance Education

Abstract

This session is intended for K-12 educators and college faculty to obtain relevant information regarding the specific challenges faced by distance learners with disabilities and strategies to faciliate learning in these settings. As the use of technology is expanding within diverse educational settings, it is crucial to examine the implications on students with disabilities. Participants will engage in a discussion of best practices and considerations for online learners with disabilities. Issues and trends that increase optimal performance for students in online learning enviornments will be discussed. A disucssion of emerging practices will be included. Furthermore, considerations and accomodations that can facilitate learning in students with different disabilities will be discussed.
