Abstract
The Mental Research Institute’s Brief Therapy is an approach that focuses on how family’s failed solution attempts maintain and increase the problem. Therapy targets these failed solution attempts and shift from first-order change attempts to second-order change. This chapter uses the case of the Daniels to explain and apply the conceptualization of problem formation and problem resolution, considerations of diversity, and a hypothetical case transcript to describe and explain the model and how the family therapist creates a therapeutic story that helps the family move toward their goals.
