Abstract
Law school education today faces more law schools with fewer applicants. Students, in turn, have compressed LSAT scores. New experiential graduation requirements and legal writing requirements narrow the potential range of courses offered while business and technology courses are slowly being introduced. For law firms, a focus on hiring new lawyers with both legal and marketplace skills is increasingly important. Skills valued in new hires still somewhat different from the skill sets valued in new partners. Law schools and law firm training programs must both expanded ‘soft-skills’ critical to success of law firms. A renewed partnership between law schools and bar is needed to develop and teach the skills valued by modern law firms and their clients.
