Abstract
This chapter describes historical perspectives, the current status, and future directions of the counseling profession in Argentina. It also provides information regarding counselor education, counseling practice, and diversity issues in Argentina. Parallel to the growth of counseling in Argentina and through international recognition, a number of publications emerged. This fulfilled several needs of Argentine counselors. First and foremost, there seemed to be a search by individuals and groups for a counseling identity. Second, there was a demand for information on counseling theories and practices developed in Argentina based solely on the local experience. Lastly, evidence-based research studies emerged that corroborated work conducted throughout the profession's 80-year existence and validated the effectiveness of the profession in Argentina. Counseling in Argentina is an established profession with title protection and an educational degree that shares the aforementioned new vision and plan for the future.
