Abstract
Geriatric rehabilitation practitioners need to know how to identify cultural factors that affect therapy and how to apply cultural knowledge in practice. Identifying cultural factors requires a real understanding of culture as it varies from obvious to exquisitely subtle. The process of inquiry to ascertain cultural factors is offered as a more accurate way of judging a patient's cultural status than lists of traits. Also, practitioners must distinguish between ethnic-specific cultural factors and cross-cutting generational cohort factors.
