Abstract
For over 100 years, possible interrelations between dental infections and systemic diseases have impacted clinical dentistry and millions of patients. As science advanced, the focal infection theory lost credence; however, it has recently seen a revival sparked by questionable science, charlatanism, and social media. This presentation highlights a brief history of this theory and the clinical practices that result from it.
