Abstract

Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead is a play by Bert V. Royal that reimagines the Peanuts characters as teenagers dealing with real-world issues like grief, bullying, and identity, following protagonist CB after his dog's death leads him to question life, death, and his place in the world. The play explores themes of teen angst, sexuality, and rebellion through its characters, who are thinly veiled versions of Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus, and others, as CB forms an unlikely friendship with the bullied "Beethoven" (Linus).
