Empirical Derivation of Experimental Scales for Localizing Brain Lesions Using the Luria-Nebraska Neuropsychological Battery.

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Attempted to develop 8 localizing scales, based on the Luria-Nebraska Neuropsychological Battery (LNNB), for patients with lesions in the frontal lobes, temporal lobes, parietal lobes, and sensory motor areas in each hemisphere. Scales were developed by finding those items that maximally discriminated 1 or 2 of the groups of patients with specific localized lesions from 77 normal Ss on the LNNB. Of the 53 locally damaged Ss, 47 scored highest on the scale corresponding to their diagnosed affected area. Most of the misses were accounted for by the fact that 10 Ss had generalized damaged rather than pure focal lesions. The items constituting each of these tentative scales are discussed.
