Abstract
The presenters—directors and student-leaders of two writing and communication centers—examine cross-institutional research that extends the work of Kail, Gillespie, and Hughes by focusing on how centers create the types of learning experiences that engage staff members and help them become active citizens within their centers, universities, and communities. Using student engagement research as a foundation, the two centers have developed “engagement surveys” that gauge how working in the writing center impacts their tutors’ experiences as students. The four presenters examine and analyze results and implications for engaging students.
