Ethical Dilemmas and Decision-Making: The Great Debate

Research output: Contribution to conference › Presentation › peer-review

Abstract

Audiology often presents ethical dilemmas that require balancing competing values and principles. This presentation explores the four pillars of medical ethics—autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice—and their application in clinical practice, including adherence to the AAA Code of Ethics. Attendees will learn a systematic approach for addressing ethical issues, including identifying dilemmas, gathering information, evaluating options, consulting colleagues, and making decisions. To enhance understanding, the session features two debates on real-world dilemmas, followed by an interactive conversation. These discussions aim to deepen appreciation of ethical complexities and develop strategies for making patient-centered, ethically sound decisions in audiology.
