Abstract
This chapter describes the fieldwork experiences in Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP)-accredited counseling programs, frequently called practicum and internship. Practicum and internship are intensive fieldwork experiences where knowledge and skills learned throughout the teaching portion of counseling curriculum will be applied. The chapter describes what to expect before, during, and after these field experiences. It also defines the minimum requirements counseling students must meet while providing direct services with actual clients and indirect tasks and activities related to their fieldwork. FAQs address common questions about fieldwork, including clinical supervision, types of fieldwork sites available to counseling students, and practical considerations, including financial considerations, employment, and time commitments during the fieldwork experiences.
