Abstract
This chapter covers the procedural steps and decision-making frames for transcribing pitch and rhythm. The first section covers the procedures for transcribing the timing, length, and pitch of individual notes. The second section then covers procedures for transcribing percussive, melodic, and harmonic note series, as well as slash notation. Finally, the third section covers a practical roadmap for transcribing foundational layers in order of difficulty. The section activities help learners decide which procedures to use in context to transcribe foundational layers. In summary, this chapter offers a framework for practitioners of diverse backgrounds to transcribe effectively based on their skills and general musicianship.
