    Abstract

We, who are engaged in the brave new world of web-based or web-enhanced learning, are bombarded daily by buzzwords such as evolving technology, constructivist learning, lifelong learning, global economy, global learning community, and more. What seems obvious to all is that economic and technologic conditions are transforming literate people on the planet into a large, dynamic learning society. Although we all stand ready to proclaim ourselves members of this new world order, there is a reluctance to reevaluate the roles of teacher and learner in ways that make the learning society most beneficial to all.
