From the Desk of the Executive Editor: Opening Gates in Teacher Education

For decades, the Society for Applied Learning Technology (SALT®) has been at the forefront of disseminating best computer-supported applications in learning and training. The worst possible reasons for using a technology are that it exists and that it is easy to use. The best possible reason is that use enables performance that could not be done otherwise or could not be done as easily or efficiently. Teaching and learning online usually involves a process that continues over a period of time called a term and a product called a course encapsulated in a syllabus. The course contains objectives, assignments, assessments, presentations, and student/teacher interaction. Although we have tried to present an objective picture of state-of-the-art and to feature online synchronous classes when articles describing them were approved by the editorial board, it does not take a sophisticated reader to appreciate our editorial perspective that asynchronous online classes make available greater and more convenient opportunities for subject and skill mastery.
