abstract = " A workshop at CHI '92 [1] proposed a list of skills and attributes that successful HCI practitioners must possess. Some skills can be learned in an academic setting, some attributes are personality traits, and some knowledge can only be gained on the job. The CHI {"}92 list was used as a starting point to discuss how a collaborative approach between academia and industry can foster such skills and attributes in HCI students. Such collaboration benefits educationprograms by helping to ensure that their content effectively prepares students for careers in industry. It benefits industry by bringing them effective job candidates. And finally, the collaboration itself benefits both academia and industry by enriching them both. This workshop was one of a series of workshopssponsored by CHI under the heading of HCI Education.",
