The past decade has seen a surge in interest in the publication of institutional histories of the federal courts, appellate as well as trial. While previous works were concerned with the trial courts only as the footnoted source of disputes resolved by the Supreme Court, several recent books have focused on the trial courts themselves, finding them a rich source of local, regional, and national history.
