Abstract

This chapter covers several context-specific decision frameworks for transcribing global music information layers. The first section covers form labels, navigation signs, and the effect of repeated sections on the scope of notation detail possible. The second section then covers time signature changes, pickups and inserts, and more complex metering situations. Finally, the third section covers common types of feels, tempo developments, tempo suspensions, and their notation. The section activities help learners apply contextual decision-making when transcribing form, time signatures, and tempo. In summary, this chapter offers several frameworks to transcribe musical works with respect for their style and industry-specific context.
