Odontogenic Myxoma: A Case Report

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Odontogenic myxomas (OM) are uncommon, slow-growing, benign lesions that may occur at any age. They are usually asymptomatic, locally aggressive, and with a slightly female preponderance. The diagnosis of OM poses a challenge because their clinical features resemble other benign and malignant oral neoplasms. Despite the absence of unanimity regarding treatment, we suggest a complete surgical excision in cases of large lesions and strict long-term surveillance, given the high risk of recurrence. This report describes the clinical, radiological, and histopathological characteristics of an unusual case of a large expansile/erosive odontogenic myxoma situated in the left maxilla and extending into the maxillary sinus floor.
