Abstract

This chapter covers the procedural steps involved in planning and outlining a music transcription project. The first section discusses how to set a favorable transcription scope based on experience, arrangement complexity, and production quality. The second section then introduces six sheet music formats along with general guidance on selecting a purposeful format for a project. Finally, the third section covers the processes of metering the recording, analyzing global music information layers, and transferring that information to the sheet music file. The section activities help learners practice decision-making in this initial phase. In summary, this chapter explains the considerations for creating a strong fundament in the transcription process.
