Abstract
Pericoronal infection of the teeth can occur at any age and is associated with the eruption of deciduous and permanent dentition. However, pericoronitis is most commonly associated with the eruption of the mandibular third molars. It usually affects those aged 16–30 years, but it may occur later. The pathogens associated with pericoronitis are gram-negative anaerobes, which normally inhabit the peridontal tissues.
