Practice patterns of men and women dentists

Today, more women are choosing to enter the dental profession than ever before. This article uses an ADA survey to study gender-related similarities and differences in practice patterns of US dentists. The 1985 American Dental Association Survey of Dental Practice was analyzed to determine the similarities and differences in the practice, patient, and productivity characteristics among male and female dentists who graduated from dental school in or after 1915. Additional analyses were conducted to determine the predictors of two productivity variables: number of hours in practice per week and number of patients treated per week.
