Pretty Wired Up: Inspiring Women to become Leaders Through the use of Technology

<p> All women can aspire to be a leader. However, some women who have survived traumatic events may need a jumpstart like a car in need of a new battery. Women in the general population, including Broward County who experienced domestic violence, sexual assault, homelessness, unemployment, substance abuse, limited education, and other conditions are often ill-prepared to re-enter society as a productive citizen and/or leader in the community. Women without a diploma, no income, and no employment experiences, may face barriers preventing them from accessing community resources making it difficult to accomplish goals and moving them beyond their potential. Specifically, women in Broward County have the opportunity to take advantage of local resources such as The Ted Center (or the Center for Technology Enterprise and Development, Inc.) and the Florida Women&rsquo;s Center for job preparation or to assist with their own professional development and growth. In this session, we will discuss the barriers facing women in South Florida including the following: <ol> <li> I. Background and demographics of women in need in Broward County </li> <li> II. Share successful programs for technology training </li> <li> III. Share video of successful stories and experiences of women </li> <li> IV. Brainstorming ideas with the audience to optimize training opportunities available to women in need </li> </ol> <ol> <li> 1. Cultivate awareness of women in need in Broward County; </li> <li> 2. Identify resources/programs (or technology training) in the community to assist women in need </li> <li> 3. Create opportunity to share expertise with conference participants </li> <li> 4.
