Abstract
The study entitled Research Competencies for Designers: A Systematic Review aims to determine the fundamental research competencies for the training of designers and their impact in the professional field. By outlining and establishing them, the aim is to optimize the training process in Design programs, training students to become innovative professionals and leaders in their respective areas of specialization. The research is based on a comprehensive review of the scientific literature, analyzing recent studies from various specialized databases, both in the field of Design and in higher education—the methodological approach, is a systematic review that explores a specific educational phenomenon from multiple perspectives. The results reveal deficiencies in certain key competencies, such as the ability to evaluate the state of the art in research and the skills to communicate findings effectively. Despite these shortcomings, opportunities and challenges are identified that allow progress in research training. The study provides a solid framework for future research, underlining the crucial importance of research competencies in academic success, student retention, and professional preparation of designers. These skills are considered an essential factor in strengthening the quality of training and in facing the challenges of the contemporary work environment.
