Abstract
The prevalence, costs, and morbidity of kidney stones have been increasing significantly. Although improved operative techniques have facilitated the treatment of obstructing stones, less attention has been given to preventing future recurrences. Physician assistants, especially those in primary care, must play a central role in preventing recurrent nephrolithiasis. This paper focuses on the medical evaluation and nonsurgical management of nephrolithiasis.
