Scales, Children

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Scales for children are psychological and behavioral measurements used for diagnosis and treatment planning of individuals typically below the age of 18. Scales, also referred to as tests or assessments, are designed to recognize deficits or impairments in functioning. While many child-based scales have been modified from adult versions, there are those created specifically for children. Assessments may be performed by clinicians or based on parent observation. Whether working with children in schools, hospitals, or community mental health settings, clinicians can benefit from having knowledge of various child-based psychological measures. This entry provides a historical overview of scales for children, as well as information regarding clinical use and categories and types of scales.
