Abstract
This article describes the development of an electrical capacitance system to measure the structural order of an array of equally sized quasi-two dimensional objects. A measurement device was designed and built based on an AC capacitive measurement circuit. A system of discs was built such that the structural order could be varied between a cubic and a hexagonal packing. Measurements of the capacitance of the system were taken using electrodes of size comparable to the diameter of the discs. Experiments and theoretical predictions show a deviation of 0.23%.
