Setting the Record Straight at Teeth Lovers Dentistry: Promoting Health Equity in Clinical Case Notetaking

Research output: Book/ReportBook

Abstract

This case study highlights the importance of objectivity, standardization, and transparency in clinical case notetaking to promote and ensure health equity. The case explores events that occurred at Teeth Lovers Dentistry (TLD), a family-owned, medium-large dental practice with four dentists and 18 supporting staff in Florida. This practice provides a range of dental services for up to 50 patients daily. It has an annual revenue in excess of USD 5 million and estimated economic impact of USD 9.5 million. Students are challenged to step into the shoes of Dr. Practitioner, principal dentist (and practice owner) of TLD. In the case, Dr. Practitioner enters operatory one where a patient (scheduled for a prosthodontic fitting) demands that derogatory clinical case notes in their TLD electronic health record (EHR) be addressed immediately.
