Abstract
The Tele-Immersion effort in terms of technical challenges, current projects and future research is presented. Visualization of real and computer-generated objects from different physical locations integrated into one environment is the main highlight of Tele-Immersion. Proper sampling of real-world objects and accuracy in translating the information are the areas of research in depth perception. Improvement in the speed of rendering by the use of the technique of postrendering warp is the main focus of Tele-Immersion. Tele Immersion Media Technology and Software Framework for Tele-Immersion (SOFT) are two main projects of the Internet 2 Tele-Immersion effort.
