The AuD Experience

Abstract

The Doctor of Audiology (AuD) has been in existence for almost 20 years. The evolving field of audiology required the transition from a master’s level to the doctoral level. This has provided faculty an opportunity to educate students for the expanding level of knowledge required for contemporary clinical practice. This expansion of education from a two year master’s degree to a three or four year doctoral degree was not without growing pains. An online survey of students and graduates from residential AuD programs was initially conducted in 2005. The purpose of the survey was to monitor trends in student loans, program strengths and weaknesses, and externship payments. The same survey has been repeated in 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, and 2014.
