Thomas moore (1779-1852), the Irish poet and song composer, is best known for his Irish Melodies, published between 1807 and 1834 and including such sentimental favorites as “The Harp that Once Through Tara’s Halls” and “The Time I’ve Lost in Wooing.” However, he also wrote numerous satires, lampoons and prose pieces, including The Fudge Family in Paris (1818), and the long narrative, LaUa Rookh (1817), inspired by the contemporary taste for Oriental verse romances, which achieved a popular success in Europe.
