Abstract

This chapter covers the different components of a music transcription setup and the criteria for selecting these components. The first section discusses the scope of source types, audio quality parameters, and playback devices. The second section then evaluates how audio output devices, listening environments, and reference tools influence a transcriptionist’s listening experience. Finally, the third section discusses the choice of music notation software and peripherals, and how they can be connected to increase transcription effectiveness. The section activities help learners explore and apply various setup components. In summary, this chapter illuminates the role of technology in optimizing a personalized transcription workflow.
