Abstract

This talk explored conflicts arising from the Chinese Communist Party’s desire to maintain political control of the Chinese people, while increasing the nation’s global economic power. As the 2008 Olympics drew near, bringing an influx of Western press in China, what did the Chinese government do to maintain the façade of democracy?
