Abstract
Home-based family therapy has recently gained greater appreciation as a treatment for providing services to families, who for whatever reason, cannot utilize a clinic setting. By providing services in families’ homes, home-based family therapists have at their disposal a variety of materials and occasions to promote the therapeutic relationship and therapeutic change. This paper will explore how the in-home family therapist can utilize different aspects of the home environment to promote the process of joining. Case scenarios from family therapists’ home-based experiences will present examples of utilizing the environment to increase the therapeutic joining process.
