Abstract
Classroom diversity is becoming an increasingly prevalent and heterogeneous area of inquiry. The term diversity exceeds our cultural roots and includes personal learning preferences, support needs, and goals. Within these environments, the question arises how we can include learners with various learning preferences and levels of subject expertise. This presentation explores differentiated instruction in the context of applied subjects. Specifically, the presentation explores strategies to empower diverse learner profiles. During the first presentation part, the presenter shares instructor observations from two applied courses taught this spring semester. Following this part, attendees are invited to share their own observations of diverse learner profiles. The second presentation part then explores several features on Canvas to facilitate differentiated instruction. Emphasis is placed on empowering learners to leverage their learning experience. Following the presentation part, attendees are welcome to share their thoughts, experiences, or questions during a freeform discussion.
