Abstract

Description: Winner of the 2018 Critics’ Choice Award for Best Action Movie and surpassing $800 million worldwide, director Patty Jenkins’s Wonder Woman (2017) is a commercial as well as critical success. Jenkins’s film reimagines and revitalizes the 1941 DC Comic hero, Princess Diana of Themyscira, Daughter of Hippolyta, or as we know her, Wonder Woman, for a big screen experience of action, humor, and drama. With her combination of beauty, spunk, and intelligence, newcomer Gal Gadot shines in the title role. When an Allied pilot, Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor, crashes near her idyllic island, Diana’s world is turned upside down. The film traces the evolution of Diana from Amazon princess to butt-kicking warrior-woman, one whose destiny is to save humankind from the destruction and chaos of world war.Facilitator: Dr. Kate Waites.
