The purpose of this strategic research project (SRP) is to identify one concerning aspect of the School District of Palm Beach County (SDPBC) that can be remedied through an academic intervention. The limited amount of effective reading interventions for students with low socioeconomic status (SES) is problematic for SDPBC. The iSTART program was selected during this SRP as an academic intervention for SDPBC 8th-grade school students. Specifically, the Information and Communication Technology Classroom & Home Reading Activities (ICT C&HRA) was selected as a strategy to be used for the school district's implementation of the iSTART intervention. The SRP outlined an action plan to be carryout during the implementation of the reading intervention in which several organizational stakeholders (e.g., parents, students, teachers, school administration, district personnel) will take part in the district's 3-year goal to significantly narrow the standardized achievement gap between students with low SES and their peers (FLDOE, n.d.-a). Additionally, the SRP presented evaluation methods (e.g., standardized assessments, classroom assessments) that would be used to assess students' reading growth during their participation in the reading intervention. I highly recommended that more quantitative studies be conducted to examine the effectiveness of the iSTART program toward students' standardized reading assessment performance achievements.
