This applied dissertation was designed to evaluate the newly implemented initiatives towards waste-management efficiency efforts of an environmental sustainability program in a smart meter company. Company reports showed that the waste-management efficiency efforts were falling short of their goals compared to the smart meter company’s parent company and sister company. Also, the newly implemented initiatives had not been evaluated. The researcher conducted a concurrent triangulated mixed methods study to evaluate the first 2 year’s results of the newly implemented waste-management efficiency efforts of the smart meter company. The researcher collected qualitative data through individual interviews with five employees following an interview guide and determined the program was not implemented as intended. Results revealed that several intended inputs and activities were excluded from the actual implementation of the program. The researcher collected quantitative data from company records and determined the waste-management efficiency outcomes for Calendar Year (CY) 2013 exceeded their goals while 2014 outcomes showed a slight decrease. Overall, the company is still on target to attain its long-term goal of a 6% increase in waste-management efficiency by the end of 2015. Overall, results showed an increase in waste-management efficiency post implementation compared to pre implementation and that waste-management efficiency efforts were higher in the smart meter company compared to its parent and sister company. The researcher also collected quantitative data from 60 employees using the New Ecological Paradigm Scale. Results revealed employees’ attitudes are positively affecting the waste-management efficiency efforts. Based on the evaluation results, the researcher recommends involving employees in the implementation and providing more opportunities for training and communication in order to improve the waste-management efficiency efforts.
