Development of a Strategic Knowledge Management Plan for E-Learning at the School of Graduate and Adult Studies

Abstract

The problem addressed in this applied dissertation was that each department in the School of Graduate and Adult Studies (SGAS) was developing e-learning activities and efforts were duplicated, uncoordinated, and lacking the integration necessary to develop an effective e-learning platform. The purpose of this study was to develop a Strategic Knowledge Management Plan for E-Learning that would integrate the efforts of all departments and enable the SGAS to develop, implement, maintain, and evaluate e-learning curricula. Developmental and evaluation research methodologies were used in the study. There were 3 research questions addressed in the study: (a) What is the appropriate Strategic Knowledge Management Plan for E-Learning at the SGAS that identifies key components of an appropriate e-learning platform? (b) What is the appropriate implementation plan for the Strategic Knowledge Management Plan for E-Learning? and (c) What criteria will be used to evaluate the effectiveness of the Strategic Knowledge Management Plan for E-Learning and the currency of content in the degree programs? The procedure for each question included a literature review, development of parts of the plan, and an iterative process of review and revision by the formative and summative committee members and the researcher until the plan was developed. The results of the study included the development of an appropriate Strategic Knowledge Management Plan for E-Learning, an implementation plan, and an evaluation plan for the SGAS. The conclusion was that the plan was the appropriate plan for the SGAS. The recommendation was that the plan be implemented to the extent as determined by the dean of the SGAS.
