This applied dissertation was designed to explore experienced physical education teachers and their self-efficacy when teaching students with a disability. This qualitative analysis examined physical education teachers’ experience and their confidence level when teaching adapted physical education. Physical education teachers are expected to provide differentiated instruction for each student; however, this can be a challenge for teachers. The challenge lies in the fact that not all physical education teachers have the confidence or basic training to teach and instruct students who have a disability. The research included 10 experienced physical education participants from Grades K–12. All participants completed a self-efficacy survey focused on their confidence levels when teaching an inclusion and a self-contained class. Additionally, all participants participated in a semi-structured interview. Based upon the demographic criteria for the research project four of the participants completed three self-reflective observations based on their inclusion physical education classes. An analysis of the data revealed that the experienced physical education teachers have gained knowledge and confidence through time and practice. However, it appears there is still a gap in self-confidence as the overall participant self-confidence level was moderately confident and the observation portion was average inclusion for students with a disability. Based upon the participant responses there is still a need for support and professional development. Most participants discussed different types of support needed to improve their teaching practices, along with specific professional development. It is important for each student to obtain success in physical education class. The success of the student can be influenced by the confidence level of the physical education teacher, specifically, teaching students that have a disability.
