Public policy affects virtually every aspect of how occupational therapists practice, yet they are not often a part of the policymaking process. This capstone project, titled OT on the Hill, utilized digital media to create a convenient way for occupational therapists to become more involved so that their needs and their clients’ needs have a better chance of being reflected within public policy. The methods used to advocate included publishing blog posts, YouTube videos, and Instagram posts containing information on current events that have an effect on occupational therapy as a profession and/or the clients served. The digital media content showcased the value of occupational therapy and provided specific action steps for occupational therapy practitioners to take in order to have their voices heard within the legislative process. Collectively, the content reached over 120 views with the latest YouTube video having the most views. This suggests that the longer this project is active, the more individuals will engage and become aware of occupational therapy advocacy within public policy.
